        Hello everyone!

So, I’ve got mice in my house. I’m working on getting rid of them (there are a lot more than I realized, eugh), but I’m worried about my bunnies catching disease from them.

I found droppings in their pen. I’m not sure how long they were there because they were underneath all their boxes and hideaways and I only pick those up to clean once or twice a week. I checked once I saw mouse evidence in the kitchen, and sure enough, they had been in the buns’ house too. I threw out all of their toys, I threw out their mat and am going to replace it once I’m sure the critters are gone, and I scrubbed the floors. I’m not leaving their food out and I’m vacuuming daily, and I haven’t seen more droppings in their area.

The buns seem perfectly fine (just irritated that they’re new toys still haven’t arrived!). I’m paranoid though, so I’m wondering if there is anything I need to worry about as far as disease.

I don’t really have much info on the subject but I heard something about some mice droppings being dangerous for people in the western parts of North America. I can’t remember what the issue was exactly.

I’m in New Brunswick and I’ve had several mice and voles come in the past year. There’s an entry point somewhere that even the exterminator can’t find! I found a mouse in the rabbit room once.

I really wouldn’t worry too much, though. As long as you are keeping things clean. Vaccuming and sweeping. Sounds like your buns will be fine.

This has come up as a topic here before so maybe someone can give you some info. If you are still worried, you could always call or e-mail an exterminator to see if there are any mice diseases communicable to pets in your area.

There was an issue with hantavirus here. I don’t know if bunnies can get that from mice or not.

Mice can spread tularemia though. That being said, it’s unlikely the mice in your house are infected. I would just try to keep the area as clean as possible as a precaution.
