Just when I think I’ve found the perfect litter box system for the rabbits, Mimzy goes to prove me wrong!

I used to have a regular litter pan with the grid that worked PERFECTLY for the first 2 years until Mimzy found out how fun it was to grab the litter screen & toss it out making a big huge mess & then digging out the litter. I had always used pine pellets with her.
I then got them a cat sifting litter box because she for sure wasn’t going to be able to take that grid out. Unfortunately the box was an absolute pain to clean, tried a different one that had the grid & then a tray underneath for potty pads, worked ok for a little while but also was a nightmare to clean & 2 rabbits go through potty pads like it’s nobody’s business.

I finally (& still currently) got a plastic bin with a lid, it’s pretty much back to the basic tray with a screen litter box, but cut out a hole large enough for them to fit through but not enough to throw the grid out. It’s enclosed with a lid, using the pine pellets & grid, doesn’t yet have a hay rack. It was working fantastically for about a month or so, but suddenly Mimzy has started pulling out ALL the hay & making a huge mess, it’s driving me crazy!

I’m going to see if figuring out a hay rack for it will solve the problem but does anyone have any other suggestions for solutions? Obi is no problem with it, only Mimzy!

Here’s her first & biggest mess I got to come home to! Also, this has been the largest litter box the bunnies have had, so I don’t think it could be the size?

I wonder if there isn’t a proper activity that you could support, that would satisfy her need to throw and dig. If that urge is satisfied, I wonder if she wouldn’t leave the litter alone.

Maybe a towel and a phone book -to shred and dig? I would try that before over hauling your litter system.
