I am currently in highschool working at subway and they literally take our hours as a joke! One week my hours are amazing and others they are straight poop. Well coming in March I can’t work any other days besides Sunday’s. And honestly that freaks me out because I didn’t plan ahead so I feel super irresponsible. My bunny are used to getting new toys every week and treats to try plus I wanna make sure I have enough for food the next couple months as well as an emergency fund and I just don’t know what to do anymore. I’m so stressed

As long as you have money for food and a little sth for emergencies, I think your bun will be fine without new toys. Treats don’t have to be expensive ready-made treats, an apple slice or a slice of banana will be just as appreciated.
If you can’t work so much maybe you’ll have more time to spend with your bun? I bet he’ll love that more than all toys in the world!

I feel so bad right now since I am working so much for them I just wish I could explain it to them that I’m doing this for them and I love them very much

They can’t understand about your work of course but I think you’re making it very clear to them that they are loved. They hear it in the tone of your voice, they can probably even smell it on your skin. Animals are experts at picking up on emotions.

I agree that our bunnies can sense how we feel about them. They are extremely intuitive when it comes to feelings. This might be a good opportunity to experiment with “free” toys. Empty toilet roll holders stuffed with hay (or even just as they are), cardboard boxes from packages – with 2 holes cut in them, and maybe even brown paper packaging stuffed inside for them to shred. If you don’t have boxes lying around the house, you could ask at a local grocery store – or any store for that matter. Branches to chew from safe trees in your yard, telephone directories to shred. With a good box supply – you could build quite the bunny mansion. For treats, like bam said, a slice of banana, apple, or other favorite fruit. You could use the bits of hay at the bottom of the bag and bake your own bunny treats. I tried using long hay, it really does need to be the tiny bits at the bottom of the bag. There are recipes on this forum you could search for, or do a google search. Typical ingredients are hay bits, pellets, banana. sometimes honey, and sometimes oats.
I always try to find cheap/free treat/toy options, since they are expensive to buy. I do spend a fair amount of money on accommodation and flooring, but I go for the cheapest toy options, since they destroy them anyway. I’m sure there are even more examples. Try doing a google search for “how to make toys for my rabbit”. I’m sure you will find all sorts of creative inexpensive/free ideas.
Perhaps instead of new toys every week, how about a collection of toys, and rotate them out every week? So that for example – week 1, this set of toys. Week 2, the next set, week 3 the next set, week 4 the next set, and then back to week 1 again. You could also rearrange their living area every week. That provides stimulus as well. It sounds simple, but it really is effective. Everytime I rearrange my bunnie’s room, it’s like a whole new room to them, and they explore like it is something completely new and exiting.

Holy Hannah ! New toys every week ?!?!

Mine are lucky if the see any for months, lol. In fact I bought some at Christmas because I thought they’d like them, but they don’t really.

They are very happy with paper towel rolls stuffed with hay and the ends tucked in or anything cardboard related.

Manufactured treats usually contain sugars, oils and preservatives, better off making you own

Just as long as you have money for food and hay.

You don’t need a bunch of money to still give new toys — click on “Search” above and search for “toytorials”. You’ll find great ideas for do-it-yourself toys, complete with instructions and pictures courtesy of our very own LongEaredLions.

Dish cloths and old towels make great toys too. My bunnies enjoy dragging them around, digging at them, rearranging them, unarranging them, etc.

Dandelion does not have expensive treats – he loves the little shreddies – I get Aldi’s own brand which are even cheaper. He has those and he also loves raisins. both of these treats are kept in glass jars with metal lids on and one rattle has him running to me and jumping on my lap
As for toys, he loves screwed up brown paper/tissue paper, cardboard tubes and boxes, yogurt tubs, sterilised pine cones. He choses these in preference to the shop bought toys which frankly, in Dandelions case turned out to be a waste of money Anyway, I think that you are doing a fantastic job and that you are worrying too much. I am sure that they know you love them, and that is the most important thing.
