This evening i came across something i never seen before, my rabbit and i happened to be lying down on the couch with her butt facing me. So i was just grooming and scratching her. Then i started going the deep end near her butt/start of the tail where it has very very dense fur and i start seeing white flakes (where first i thought it was the carefresh bedding because they are white). But then i start seeing more and more. This is the only area where i see these white flakes(pretty big, not dots), not neck, no other part. There is no bald spot. Is this normal? Maybe her butt is just really dry? Last time i check with the vet was Dec 8, and everything came it good, no mites or problems. When i rub the white flake agains my fingers, they turned into powder.

Not sure. Haven’t seen it before. Would like to hear what other people think. I saw a similar white thing on Lancelto this evening but it didnt’ turn to powder. It kinda popped and it felt waxy. I threw it out coz it was a bit gtross and I only saw one. Nothing powdery like you describe. Not too sure what it could be. I had dandruff/flaky skin on a cat I brought home from a rescue facility, and it got better after I increased the protein in her diet. But that doesn’t apply to rabbits I guess…

It looks like fur mites, a rabbit almost always carries a few, but if there’s a dip in the rabbit’s immune-defense, the mites can start to multiply. Root of tail and behind shoulder-blades are typical spots for mites. What speaks against mites is the fact that the flakes crumbled into a powder. The flakes on the skin of a bun with a mite infestation are like “fatty”.

You can try to put on some bag balm or other fat cream to see if it goes away, if that doesn’t help I’d recommend you contact your vet and try to get some Revolution (selamectin), it’s bunny safe and very effective against mites.

Is actually very hard to spot, i had to dig really deep and i can only find it while she is lying down with me (which only happens when she wants to chill).
Her skin at the butt looks dark pink and still have very nice dense fur, no big spot falling apart. She isn’t scratching excessively. It looks healthy to me? I think i should wait out couple weeks and see before i seek the vet?

Yes, I think that’ll be fine. If it’s mites, there’s generally some type of crusts, when my Bam had fur mites there were two small write crusts that I couldn’t pick out with my fingers, they were like “stuck” really hard. He also had a tiny tiny bit of hair-loss around the crusts.
If it’s a very low-grade infestation, fur mites can be fought off by the bun’s own immune defense.
If it gets worse, or starts to appear at the nape of the neck/between the shoulder-blades as well, you should of course seek vet care. if it should turn out to be mites, all pets in the household I e cats and dogs as well as other buns, should be treated.
