I have two rescued rabbits, one male, one female, both neutered/spayed.

I have had them both for over a year- the boy’s litter habits have always been great, even when I introduced the girl. They are both around 2-3 years old.

The girl however, has always been a little spotty, but I didn’t mind until now, since she has gone full blown peeing not in the box. I rent a house (i’m in college) and they have already ruined the carpet. Thumper (the girl) REFUSES to pee in the litter box. She will go everywhere around it. I have tried moving it, changing boxes, everything. Note: this has not always been a problem. Especially when they are with me at my parents house, same set up, full roam, she is almost perfect. It is just in my rental (great, the carpet I’ll have to pay for).

The setup: They have free roam of my room with two litter boxes, one by their food and another where the female insists on peeing, though wherever I put it she just goes beside it.

        Any thoughts?

If a bunny’s litter habits change suddenly, it is always a good idea to take them for a checkup at the vets, as litter issues can be signs of other medical issues.
Beyond that, have you changed litters recently? There have been stories of bunnies suddenly refusing to go in the litterbox because they don’t like the litter. Can you try getting two more litterboxes to put next to the current ones? If the male bunny uses one of the boxes, the female may feel threatened because she doesn’t want to enter the box with the male. You can also try putting the hay in the litterbox to encourage her to go in, or placing a large square of linoleum under the boxes, just to eliminate confusion between litter and carpet.
