Tomorrow Thumper is getting neutered and I’m completely nervous and I want to be as comfortable as possible for when he gets home. Thumper will be getting moved into a quiet room but I am stuck between using a “Pop up cage” or bringing his dog cage up stairs? Also what else besides a heated water bottle I would need

Best of luck to Thumper and wishing him a ((Speedy Recovery)))).

If the vet isn’t providing pain killers for you to bring him, you can ask for some. Some buns are fine, but it’s nice to have if necessary. Also, you should make sure to have some of his fave foods on hand. Again, most boys are fine but if he is not in the mood to eat, it’s good to have his faves to try to entice him.

If he doesn’t eat anything even his favorites should I syringe feed him?

Yes, but not right away. He might be very drowsy and out if it and that’s normal. When my Bam was neutered he wouldn’t eat the evening when he came home, so the next morning I started syringe-feeding pellet mash.
You can give him water in a bowl if he normally has a bottle, he may think it’s less bothersome to drink from a bowl if he’s a bit dizzy from having been under.
I wish you the best, (((((safe neuter-vibes))))) for Thumper!

I’m wishing Thumper a speedy recovery and a good surgery! I have read somewhere that male rabbits seem to bounce back quicker than females when it comes to neutering and spaying. Washing his favorite veggies in water is a good way for him to get fluids and food at the same time (if he seems hungry the night he returns- if not, like bam said, the next morning you can start feeding him pellet mash through a synrige.) I’m sending (((((quick recovery))))) vibes to Thumper!!

I was able to pick up thumper 9 hours after I dropped him off he’s on a pain shot right now. The vet was surprised at how willing he was to eat after surgery. Thanks everyone for the well wishes thumper should be back to his full self in about 10 days according to the vet

I hope your girls recover soon and thank you
I’m kinda caught off guard to how active thumper is being he’s acting like he didn’t even have the surgery. I know rabbits hide pain but I feel like if he was in unbearable pain he wouldn’t be pushing himself like this

My bunny Yohio started eating the minute he came home from his neuter. He was like nothing ever happened. That’s not uncommon with young boys.

After a few days/ a week a bun can get into a “post-neuter craze” though, when the hormones are dying down. The bunny then acts super-hormonal for a little while. There can be spraying and poop marking, grunting and humping and nipping and and defense of territory f ex. It generally lasts 2 weeks max in a boy, longer for girls.

How long after surgery does he have to be kinda confined to stay calm. When can he be let out to run?

I think 2 or perhaps 3 days, considering his current perkiness, a neuter is a small operation. He should preferably stay on the ground for like a week. No big jumps or climbing! But a bit of exercise is good because it activates the tummy. If he’s getting very restless, it’s better to let him out to play a bit than have him confined to his cage all the time where he can get the idea to chew his wound. Boredom can have that effect sometimes.

Check his incisions daily so there’s no big swelling, blood, seepage, excessive redness etc. That’s easiest to do if you get him to meerkat for a treat.
