Hi, have been noticing several things lately. I Was lying on sofa, eating some rice pudding, and bun ( newly adopted 2yr old male rex) jumped up and started helping himself
to some. Kind of brazen- not used to this after a quiet little female lionhead.
How to teach manners? Also noticed instead of grunting, He was making tiny little high pitched squeaky noises. Then, he was twitching his back end. I also noticed this when he was in his litter box, and when something fell out of the fridge when he was waiting for greens. That time it was very pronounced. Like his skin was crawling. I’m wondering if this is nervousness, excitedness, or some neurological or other thing to be concerned about, or anyone else has noticed this. Thank you.

Many rabbits will twitch their back ends when eating something yummy, like banana.

If you don’t want him on the sofa, you can pick him up and set him back down on the floor, while saying NO. He may or may not get the message. Since he dove right into your rice pudding, you need to make sure that any human foods like that are not accessible to him. You don’t want him getting sick from eating food that he shouldn’t be eating.

The little high-pitched squeaky noise I’ve heard Bam make when he gets sth extra yummy to eat. And I think someone here actually posted a video of a bun doing the rear-twitch while eating a yummy treat, but I don’t remember when. So I’d say, excitement and happy anticipation.

My Bam will attack if I try to eat sth yummy lying on the couch. He’s otherwise a lazy bun, but when there’s peanuts or fruit-salad around etc, I swear he can fly =)

It’s very difficult to teach a bun manners. They don’t really care what their humans think, like dogs tend to do. Keep rice-pudding out of his reach, if he comes jumping on your chest for it, don’t give him any (even the smallest nibble means reinforcment of the behavior). You have to “teach” him it’s useless, he won’t get any. And don’t leave yummy stuff on the coffea-table or you’ll find a bunny in it when you come back into the room.
