My bunnies have lived pretty happily together for about a year now. They absolutely LOVE grooming each other and sit and do it for hours. The last few days we’ve noticed the female is actually chewing the edges of the males ears, to the point it’s drawing blood. It doesn’t seem to bother him and he never tries to get away from her. Is this normal?! And what can I do to stop it? The poor little guys ears look ragged!

Maybe get a check up make sure there isn’t something that is going on, that is prompting her to groom-like mites or something.

It’s called barberism or overgrooming-, where basically they find something and overgroom-which causes baldness and wounds, so they keep grooming, which causes baldness and wounds-it’s a cycle.
The only luck I had with my case (after struggling for months-with more toys, salt licks, more out time -because it apparently can be boredom or lacking diet etc) was to separate the two until he was completely healed and had his fur grown back, and then she stopped. It was like magic-it was a tough separation but we got through it and that’s what worked.

Ear mites can cause crusty scabs on the edges of the ears. Your girl could be chewing the scabs off. So I agree with KK, definitely rule out ear mites. If your bunnies are all clear, then I would explore the overgrooming. Like KK said, they may need to be temporarily separated to break the cycle.
