I think someone should really do something about small cages being sold in stores . Seriously yesterday was my birthday and I used all my birthday money to improve my rabbits life I got her a lot of new thing . When I was at the store there was baby bunnies being sold I saw a very happy bunny that was being sold to a nice girl around my age . I know I don’t know everything about bunnies but I am 100% sure that they were selling her the same cage I have and it is way to small . I did not buy my cage I got it with Luna when  bought her from her owner and I knew the minute I saw the cage I would need to build one . I am actually doing it this weekend and I have had her for less then two months so I think she is ok to change cages know that she is used to me . Back to the point someone I do not know who but some one needs to do something every pet store I have been to there cages are way to small for rabbits and it is sad watching them live those cages . To put insult to injurie the baby bunnies that were still for sale were in bedding that smelled like pine or what ever you know the give away that tells you this is the wrong wood bedding well it was smelling like it and the food was terrible they are supposed to promote there foods they told me and they picked the cheapest ones that had corn in it so I fell for those bunnies and hope they get sent to a home where people will love them and know what they are doing with there pet rabbits !!!

If anyone has anything to say or ad please do .That is why I posted this .

It is sad that people buy too small cages for their buns, and it is primarily about ignorance I think. People think tthat if the pet-store sells a cage, it must be ok. It’s the same thing with bunny treats, lots of really unhealthy treats for bunnies are sold in pet stores, with a pic of a happy bunny on the package, and quite naturally, people believe it’s good stuff for bunnies. I did too, when I was a new bunny owner.

Where I live there are laws reagrding cage-size for bunnies depending on the size of the bun and there are also laws on how to furnish the insides of a cage. But in many countries it’s still ok to keep bunnies on net-flooring etc. I think awarness needs to be raised. Bunnies need space, and if a pet-owner-to-be thinks that’s impractical, and wants a small pet that can be kept in a cage all day, I think perhaps a hamster is a better option. (I don’t know anything about guinea-pigs but they might be a better option to).

honestly, even very little pets need more space than is generally offered to them. These pages have some images of the usual cages, and the ideals. (click the images for descriptions)

Oh of course Diamond, hamsters too need bigger cages than people generally think. But hamsters like running in a wheel so they can get exercise inside their cage and you can make the nices little tunnel-systems for them to run in too and it still won’t take up lots of space. You can’t really make anything as stimulating as that for a bun in a normal size cage.

I (or my brother really) had hamsters when we were kids. We loved them. They really ran a lot in their wheels, I still remember hearing the wheels creak when I happened to wake up in the middle of the night. A very comforting sound!

Yeah true, they’re not social like rabbits are, so they’re better at entertaining themselves.
