        Hi everyone,

I am a very devoted bunny mummy to two mini lops, Bramble (male) and Blossom (female). I’ve had them for 10 months, and they are nearly 1 year old. They are from the same litter and have always been totally in love, absolute best pals. Bramble got ill with GI stasis last week and spent two nights at the vet, without blossom. Since he’s been back they’ve been fighting, really fighting. We’ve managed to stop lots of fights before they really start, and quickly end any that get going, so no major injuries yet but fluff everywhere and it’s just so horrible. I’m trying everything I can to rebond them, but I’m really stuck because sometimes they groom each other and cuddle up and are fine for hours, then there’s a massive fight out of nowhere. We have bought a second hutch so they are safe at night or when we are at work, and we push both hutches close together so they still see/smell each other. They seem best under supervision in a very small area that they didn’t used to go in. Can anyone please help? Will they be friends again? And how will I ever know when it’s safe for them to live together?

Thanks so much, we are pretty desperate and feel awful that we’ve made them so cross.

Maybe Bramble has the vet smell still on him and Blossom doesn’t like it?

          Are they both neutered?

I hope that they can get back to being friends soon… I’m sorry that I don’t have much other info that will help!

            Hi!

Yes they are both neutered. I think the vet smell must be part of it but now it seems more like he is attacking her. It’s just so weird when sometimes they seem to like each other again?

It’s rather typical of unbounded bunnies to be like best friends one minute, then get into a fight the next. I’m no bonding-expert, but it sounds like you might have to rebond your buns. It’s not uncommon after one has been to the vet and the other hasn’t. This is why int’s recommended to always bring both buns in a bonded duo to the vet together if possible – but many times that’s of course not possible, like for surgery and/or over-night stays.
It’s good that you’ve been able to stop many fights, they can hurt each other bad, and that you separate them at night. Stress-bonding might be an option for you.
