I found my camera, so I’ve started taking pics. More pics to follow, but here’s a few.

I have NIC cubes up on the wall for the mousebird because they hang, they don’t really perch. The birds have a feeding area in the top half of the closet to keep the food away from the bunnies.

The bourkes like to sit on the ceiling fan. I don’t use the fan anymore…

One of the pics shows the 3rd level of the wrap-around bunny condo. I’ll get better pics of the bunny setup.

I also have a 240square foot outdoor aviary. I’ll get some pics of that too.

I squished 2 planters together for a makeshift nest. I’ll be adding wicker and wooden boxes this week. The green box had seedlings – all munched.

That looks like a lot of fun for the birds. How are the tiels settling in?

The tiels are doing great. They keep off the ground coz the bunnies are inquisitive. It’s too funny watching them waddle away from the rabbits. The birds all do well with eachother. The bourkes and mousebird regularly hand out within an inch of eachother. The tiels have big flappy wings, so the other birds are still getting used to their flight. The bourkes have discovered the bunny poops… They break them open…

The idea is – no perches from wall to wall. Only perch options along each wall, so they fly from wall to wall. The shelves help me contain the bird poop. I cut up sheets to go on the shelves, and once or twice a week, I shake out the sheets, and wash them. The floor is also covered with sheets. Sheets along the inside if the bunny condo where the birds perch, so I can change those out as well and keep the bunny area clear of bird poop. I put the bunny water under their condo to discourage the birds, and put the bird water in their feeding area so they don’t bathe/poop in the bunny water. But this week I hope to be ready with the filtered water fountain. I’m testing it in the bath tub for leaks… It has 4 filters (course and fine), media balls, carbon, ceramic balls, and a uv light. I’ll test it regularly for bacteria, to determine how often I need to replace the water. Every weekend I’ll turn off the pump and give them their iodine/vitamin/preventative medicine water.

Waterfall is for the birds, but Guin and Lancelot will have access to it.

Lol. The pink parakeets are bourkes. I have 3 males, 1 female. I’m getting 2 more females. The blue finches are red cheeked cordon bleau finches. The rainbow looking are gouldian finches. There are also zebra finches, owl finches, society finches, a mousebird, and 4 cockatiels. The outdoor aviary has 2 quail and 2 turaco.

Oh wow! I just have one cockatiel and I have enough trouble containing his poop after a day of out-of-the-cage play, it takes a lot of clean up for that many free roaming birds, but how happy they must be!! I wish I had the space for an extra room just for Meki and Schubert (Schubert’s my ‘tiel).

Do they annoy each other much? I feel like Meki would be thumping if Schubert got too close, but she likes her privacy.

I change out the poop catching sheets twice a week.
For the first week, the cockatiels avoided the floor – because Lancelot was so super inquisitive, he would hop up to them and they scurried away in panic. Waddled – not flew. After a week, the bunnies lost interest and the tiel calmed down. The tiels seem to spend alot of time ont he ground. The finches don’t stay in one spot long enough to be bothered by the bunnies. By now, no one is concerned about anyone. None of the birds have ever bothered eachother. The different species actually hang out within an inch of eachother. I’m convinced that the birds are happier in that community group. The tiels seem to be more vocal in a group then on their own. They call out to use at feeding time. It’s cute. Screech screech feed feed quiet. It’s cute watching the finches line up on the fence and wait for Guin to leave the salad plate so they can have their share of the bunny greens. So at least I know that while the live plants are destroyed and waiting for new seedlings for the birds, the birds still have greens to eat 🙂
