My little guy Olaf loves to jump up on everything. The problem? He’s not very good at it. He’s clumsy and too brave for his current skills. I know most rabbits can be reckless when they get excited or are participating in the Bunny 500s, but do we all have little daredevils? I have bunny-proofed as much as possible, blocking off certain areas that have proven dangerous, but he manages to jump higher and higher everyday. Right now I’m using a 36″ dog pen and he eyes it carefully, evaluating and plotting his master plan of escape.

This is probably unavoidable, I just don’t want to see him get hurt. At one point, rather than jump off the couch the normal way, he decided it would be much more fun to jump from the arm onto a side table covered with picture frames and decor. Needless to say, my family memories are no longer on display.

Maybe he thinks he can fly.

I have one very similar. Her recent escapade involved leaping from the living room chair, onto a table with a rug and surfing across the table on the rug onto a box…

I had the table set up for her ear drop medication, but she found another purpose for it ? Crazy rabbit.

I have a video because she didn’t do it once, or twice, it became a game. Unfortunately in the video I had moved the box closer to a kitchen chair since she was attempting a leap from it ! Thankfully she stopped at the edge of the table. I have moved all of the props now, she has already fallen once and hurt her face. So yes discouraging it any way possible is really the only solution.

my bunny is a daredevil too.. a lot of times she fails to jump onto the sofa and hangs onto the edge but still fell.. sometimes i wonder if she has a concussion or break a leg or two. she loves to binky from the other side of the room or on top of the stairs and speed onto the sofa. It’s always a scene to watch.

yesterday she even dared to clim down the wooden stairs. She kept slipping, i thought she was going to fall through the railings and drop 12ft down.

oh -trust me, they CAN jump over the 36″ inch fence. my rabbit already did it a couple times. I had to put a cover over it to prevent this.

Thank you both! Glad to know I’m not alone in this experience. Crazy bunnies! You both sound like you have your hands full (in the very best way). :] I love that slide maneuver, sounds like quite a scene! Yikes. It’s as is when rabbits were created, they mixed a remarkable intelligence with two left feet. For extremely agile creatures, they sure don’t know how to stay out of their own way sometimes!

My Sprinkles has, in the past, jumped from the floor up to the top of the back of the couch. He very carefully evaluated the situation, and actually used the wall as a springboard partway through. He used it to escape his pen.. needless to say, he’s now in an enclosure with a roof when we’re not home!

My first male bunny Merlin, used to climb up into the crape myrtle tree. It is a HUGE tree. The base is easily 3ft diameter. He would climb up into the fork, and them leap out – landing maybe 6 feet away. Another male I have, Avalon, would hop up to the 3ft platform level, and then jump over his perimiter fence which was about a foot away from his platform. I would find him running around the yard…
I didn’t allow Merlin access to the crepe myrtle tree anymore… I rearranged Avalon’s platform so he couldn’t make the jump anymore.
Bunnies are super smart, and they learn from watching my cat. I use to leave her an agility course to get in and out of the rabbit run. But the bunnies woudl learn from her how to maneuver theobstacle course to get out. Merlin watched the cat climb her steps, make the 18 inch leap up to the window sill, and go into the house throught the cat window. I caught him at the top of the cat steps, standing up looking through the cat window.

Wow! More crazy stories. Love it! It is remarkable how smart they really are. I love watching Olaf evaluate certain situations, genuinely trying to figure out the best approach of attack. Merlin sounds like he was quite an adventure bun! I’ve watched a few videos of bunny parkour and it really does amaze me how agile rabbits can be (save a few accidents and leaps of faith). One in particular, “Baby Bunny Fails WIndow Jump” on youtube that is particularly relevant to this topic. :]
