This is a picture of how rabbits may have looked before we came along, they were too big to hop around like rabbits now.

Here is an interesting link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lagomorpha

I hope it helps someone who likes history like me

Ooh, thanks for making this thread!  Mind if I add to it?

The Amami rabbit is considered a living fossil, since it more closely resembles ancient rabbits than modern ones. It is now confined to two little islands in southern Japan, and is endangered.

I’ve been thinking of doing a post on interesting and obscure species of rabbit, since there’s some pretty neat ones out there

Wouldn’t the ears be conjecture?  The drawings are based on fossil evidence, and ears being soft tissue wouldn’t have fossilized with the bone.  Or, is there away to estimate ear size based on how the cartilage attached to the bone?

Fun fun!!!! I LOVE History!!!! So obviously, I love Rabbit History!!!! I have a few things to add.

I’ve always been a big fan of Ancient Egypt so I think it’s awesome there was a rabbit goddess (sometimes depicted as a woman with the head of a rabbit) named “Wenet” which meant “The Swift One”. Wenet was believed to bear restorative and regenerative magical qualities and was a symbol of renewal, fertility, protection as well as a symbol of swiftness of movement and mind.

In the Middle Ages rabbits were associated with witchcraft much like cats are today. Some people believed witches could turn into rabbits. Anne Boleyn, the infamous 2nd wife of Henry VIII was charged was charged with adultery and witchcraft. I’ve read it was rumored by peasants that the exact moment of her death (when bells were rung to announce it) a group of rabbits were seen running across a path.
