Rookie has been shedding like crazy since the winter started and I have been doing my best to brush him and stuff to get off as much hair off as possible. I don’t  want him getting a tummy ache from hair he might swallow while he cleans himself. I saw this video of a lady brushing a bun and she had a pile of hair as she was brushing it…none of my brushes give those results. I think mine only collect the top layer and hairs that are ready to fly off his back and into the air already.

Does anyone have any secret ways or tools for efficient hair removal? Are there any brushes for maybe dogs or cats that I can use on Rookie? I know their skin is very sensitive so I don’t want to accidentally scratch him with a brush or anything.

        Thanks!

When I’ve removed as much hair as I can with a self-cleaning slicker for small dogs, I have lately been using a lint-roller to get rid of the annoying rest of it. I got the tip from a member here. She said to use a generic lint-roller, not a name brand since the name brands have “better” glue and sticks too hard to the bun. So that’s what I’ve done, and this winter is the first I’ve since I got buns without bunny fluff “everywhere”.

My buns have normal fur. It probably works best for that type of fur.

A slicker works best on thick, med to long hair. That’s what I use on my lop. For shorter hair, I find the Small Animal Furminator works the best. And after your done with the brush, use the “Wet Hands” method. This is really great for getting all those loose bits off that would otherwise get licked off. Take a little bowl of water, wet your hands, shake off excess and run along bunny. Rub hands together to get off fur. Discard fur and repeat until all the loose fur is off. This is also a great way to do the belly since most buns won’t let you brush there.

Brush and do the wet hands method every day during a molt. It’s insane how much such a small little bun can lose!
