         Hello everyone,

I rescued two female rabbits in the park in September. So  I don’t know how old they are, they are  adults I’m sure.  Both are unspayed, one of them had a baby two months ago (sadly the baby died several days ago due to diarrhea). Their spay surgery will be in next week.

They are in adjacent cages now. Most of time they are harmonious together (When they are not fighting for food), they can lay down together, rarely lick each other.

But I noticed one of them shows dominance very obviously. Sometimes she humps the other, sometimes she chases the other, when they are eating, she bumps the other out of range for food… And the other one never did the responses for these aggressive behaviors.(she shows very timid personality)

I just want them to respect to each other being good sisters.

Who can give me some suggestions? Thanks very much!

One thing to do is to have a spray bottle filled with water  and make a pen with normal things they have in there cage food, water, toys etc.

Put the two rabbits in it and watch them. when one tries to be mean to the other spray him/her with the spray bottle. do this once and when your done put them back in there cages. If it is not working and you still see them fighting outside the pen you made try to spray them when there in the cage to. bunnys don’t like being  sparyed with water and it will teach them to leave each other alone. good luck

Before any bonding is attempted, all the rabbits must be spayed or neutered. Otherwise, you risk fighting and rabbits can severely injure each other when fighting, plus it could cause one rabbit to be frightened of the other one. Keep their pens close to each other, but do not let them get together until after their surgeries, and their recovery time, which is 2 weeks or so.

Here is a good article on bonding:

I agree, don’t stress them out right now with any more bonding attempts. Go through with the spay and give them minimum 2 weeks (possibly up to 4-6 weeks!) to heal from surgery and for those hormones to calm down. At that point, start over again with neutral territory…

Agreed. Spay, then heal, then bond from square one.
