So, my little female passed away today, and it’s been an emotional Rollercoaster. We know we can never replace our sweet angel, but we have a male bunny who is fixed and there was a 1-way bond (he loved her, she tried to avoid him, lol) and you can tell he’s beginning to notice that something isn’t right as we try to clean anything that was hers (sniffing where her cage used to be like crazy and laying on the spot, keeps going in her old litter box, etc). I dunno if I should seek out a new friend, or let him try to live it out alone. If I should get him another friend, should I get a male or female? He is fixed so I’m not worried about pregnancy or anything. He hasn’t been with any other bunnies since he was a baby besides her and he will be 2 this year so I am not sure how he will do with others. I think it would help my father and I too, to have a new distraction until the pain is gone, but, I do not know what is best.

I’m so sorry to hear that, ((hugs))
Male and female rabbits generally bond easier, but it is possible to have a male/male or female/female bond.

I’m sorry you lost your little bun. =(
For your boy, if you want him to have a new friend then I would suggest letting him pick him or her out. Gender doesn’t matter when it comes to bonds. Personality is everything.
If you’re unsure, then give your boy some time and see how he does. Some bunnies cope surprisingly well, while others do not.

Well I brought one home, just a baby, they think female but wasn’t positive. New issue. My older bun won’t stop trying to hump her…. and he’s been fixed for months….

Normal. He’s trying to establish dominance. Do you have a separate place to keep the baby?
