My 1 year old 2 1/2 pound fuzzy lop Bubba has recently developed two bald spots on each side of his body that slowly getting bigger. It pigmented and started growing back though and doesn’t seem to be showing signs of fur mites or anything and only scratches his ear a bit (then licks his foot) every couple hours or so. He’s on a very healthy diet and is somewhat active (he’s an extremely laid back bunny that doesn’t do much besides hop around my room or kitchen and stares at God knows what, lick me and the occasional binky). Is he molting? I brush him everyday (he’s a ball of the wooliest fur you’ve ever seen). I check it every day and he doesn’t get irritated or bothered by me prodding it for anything on his skin. Thank you for any answers that may help me!

I would guess at it just being molting, especially if you’re already seeing new growth. : )

Some bunnies will get bald patches during a molt.

and stares at God knows what

haha, that always looks so odd doesn’t it? They’re probably asleep with eyes open.

I would think molting if the fur was already regrowing. Depending on where the spots are located, it could be self-inflicted fur pulling as well.

Hmm…what would cause self inflicted hair pulling?? :/ the funny thing too is that I can’t find where that amount of fur went! His poop is perfect but there’s no trace of tufts of fur anywhere.

I’m sure it’s molting too. And yea but he’ll literally jump up on the second level of his cage and stand still as a statue while looking right at me or the window xD

Stress can lead to fur pulling. You generally see bald spots in a semi-circle going over the shoulders (as this is where bunny can reach).

It makes more sense at this point that he might be pulling it out himself. It’s on each side around his shoulders too. He doesn’t seem stressed at all though :/ its always quiet for him and he seems perfectly healthy and everything with more than enough hopping space in my house

Wait for the fur to grow in some. If the same bald spots reappear then that would suggest he’s the one doing it.
