Thorunn just had her spay today. She was dropped off at 8am and picked up at 4:30pm. They said she didn’t poop the whole time she was there. She had a small water bottle attached to her carrying cage that still looked full so I’m guessing she hasn’t had water since about 6:45am… Which was the last time I saw her drink water. Which was about 14 hours ago… Does anyone know if they IV fluids during a spay? In the past I’ve tried to give her water through a syringe but she just let it fall out of her mouth.

She still hasn’t pooped, and if they are right about her not pooping during her whole time then it has to be at least 14 hours or longer since she did… I gave her a dose of metacam about an hour ago. But she wont eat any greens, pellets, hay, or even apples. The only thing she has ate was about 5 raisins (her favorite) which I suppose is a good sign…

I have some emergency food mix that I can give her through a syringe. I’m thinking I will have to and I think I should try to add extra water to it.

Tomorrow I’m going to ask the vet for some benebac or something to help keep her digestive system moving.

She keeps kinda going in and out of it. One moment she will perk up and groom her face or ears (thankfully not her tummy) but then she will hunch back down and squint her eyes. I noticed a little bit of teeth chattering after the metacam dose, not a lot of chattering though.

        I feel really helpless…

What time did they actually do the spay? Some bunnies are really out of it afterward, especially later that day when they come home. She may not be interested in doing much, including eat. They gave you pain meds, so that’s good. Hopefully she’ll start perking up soon and you won’t have to force feed her.

Thank you, she is doing much better! She’s drank a little bit and her appetite seems almost fully back and she’s finally pooped quite a bit and peed a few times. I would just like her to drink more but I’ve been trying to feed her lots of wet greens and cucumber.

I think she’ll get there. I’ve had 4 bunnies fixed. The females take longer to recover. My females didn’t eat/drink for almost a day after. Not pooping there could be a number of things. Maybe she had already pooped, and then got nervous. Not eating or drinking at the vets, will result in not pooping or peeing. She will start to drink more too. Lucky you for getting metacam. I didn’t get pain meds for any of my buns. I fed them their favorite salad items to stimulate their appetite and provide moisture. Keep it up.
