Moshu is suffering from bouts of GI stasis. It began with diarrhea had now changed to GI stasis. I am really worried about her because I am away from home for more than half of the day. If needed, I might leave my job for her (if my supervisors do not cooperate with me and give me leaves). It wont be an easy thing to do but losing Moshu would be worse.

Anyways, she’s on Metoclopramide, Ranitidine, Simethicone, a few ayurvedic tonics and probiotic powder. She’s not recovering too much. I am not sure if she’s deteriorating further. At the moment, she was hopping on the bed and ate some alfa alfa pellets. (she aint even smelling the timothy ones).

Back to the point, I am giving her every possible medication that comes under the standard procedure for GI stasis. One thing that still remains NSAID. I will order meloxicam online tomorrow since I am at work and cannot visit the vet. It will be delivered to me in 2-3 days. I somehow managed to get hold of Tramadol. I read good reviews about it but this link (LINK) says that it might cause GI disturbances and loss of appetite. Is this true?

Should I give some Tramadol to her till I receive my order of metacam ?

That’s an opiod. I wouldn’t suggest using it. It is for moderate to severe pain and you have to be careful with dosage. And yes, there are concerns about it slowing the digestive system down even more.

As LBJ says, it’s tricky to dose it correctly, too much will be bad. Opioids are known to slow down the gut just like opiates. Does she seem to be in pain? If she shows overt signs of pain I’d consider giving tramadol, but otherwise not. I’d rather use meloxicam. Here’s the full list of bunny-safe analgesics: http://www.medirabbit.com/Safe_medication/Analgesics/safe_analgesics.htm

You should make sure she’s warm enough, GI stasis often causes the body temp to drop and whatever pain-killer you might use will lower the body temp further. She can sit in your lap with a blankie on her or have a hot water bottle in her cage so she can snuggle up to it or move away from it as she finds comfortable. Hypothermia is bad for bunnies and makes the whole system slow down, so you want to avoid that. I’m assuming you’ve done tummy-massages.

I’m glad she ate some alfalfa pellets. If she doesn’t eat enough you can syringe her ground pellets + water. (((((Moshu))))) You get well now, little girl!

Unless a vet tells you to give tramadol, I wouldn’t! Some people are allergic (I am), and some bunnies may be too. An allergic reaction to this is violent!!

I subscribed to this post and read your replies before administering her Tramadol. I took a day off from work and went to Moshu’s vet and got a little bottle of Meloxicam from her. I reach home by 9 in the night; this is why I was looking for something I could get from the pharmacies near my home..
I did not give her Tramadol. I felt a strong urge to give her something for her pain as soon as possible. I got Meloxicam now. Nothing to worry about. I will still keep the Tramadol with myself (I read some good reviews about it). But I wont give it to her without consulting you guys.

Bam, I give her tummy massages a lot. Sometimes I think I overdo it. However, they have been quite helpful so far. *touches wood* Moshu seems to like them too. She burps and then she licks my finger. She’s fine now.
