Ruby is a rescue bunny (Jersey Wooly) who is awesome in literally every regard. I just can’t seem to get her to not pee on specific things. My memory foam bath mat was a constant one. Sofa definitely. Rug (not my shaggy one but my soft one). She doesn’t go on the hard surfaces and I make sure she doesn’t have access to the bedroom where there is carpet.

I love it when she climbs up next to me on the couch and licks and snuggles but I always end up looking down and seeing she’s peed. I don’t want to discourage her from being sweet but my couch is basically covered in several spots of where she peed. It’s always peeing as well, never the pellet poop (which used to be a problem). I’ve gotten her to stop on the rug but the couch is still a major issue.

She is a rescue bun so I’m not 100% of her history but when I took her to the vet they noticed a scar where they think she got spayed.

However this all seems like territorial spraying?  Or is a ban from the couch necessary? I have bunny proofed everything else.

Soft = Good for peeing on

Seriously, buns love to pee on soft things. If something is just too tempting for her to resist, it’s best just to prevent her from being able to reach it. Block off the couch with a exercise pen or gate.

Did you acquire her relatively recently? If she’s spayed, then it could be territorial marking.

Couch/bed peeing is a very common problem. One theory is that couches and beds smell very much like us humans and that is why the bunnies want to mark it. Swap the human smell for some nice fragrant bunny pee. Some people have had luck putting a litter box on the couch while some just have to ban the couch completely.

I’ve read so much about bunnies peeing on beds/couches. I’m not letting my bunnies on beds/couches. Guin does have a thing about peeing on fleece bedding it it is on the edge of her area. So I use towels along her borders. She doesn’t pee on them. If I give her a soft snuggly blanket ont he floor, she’ll pee on it. So yes – soft/snuggly = peed on. (My other 3 rabbits aren’t like that).

Thanks for the responses. I think it’s definitely something with the scent too. Usually she will only go if I’m sitting there. It’s really hard to ban her completely though because she’s very affectionate and I don’t want to remove the bonding time we have. I’ve tried using pee pads but I’m not sure I want to encourage the peeing on the couch thing because it’s hard to block if I can’t keep a close watch on her.

I think we got in a fight this morning because I was pretty upset that she had gone on the couch and I hadn’t noticed. On the couch was also some new clothes I had laid out. -_- She just thumped around, honked and shook her head. I only see her shaking her head when she’s excited so I’m assuming this was an angry shake.

I have two bottles of pet urine removal. It’s frustrating because I don’t know her history. I think I’m going to take her to the vet to just get spayed because it seems very much like she’s marking. Hopefully she isn’t already spayed and this will help. Otherwise, Ruby you done yourself in-no more couch snuggles.

She seems like a very sweet bun with a good portion of bunnitude!

Having her spayed is your best chance, my bunny Bam peed on the sofa, it was definitely marking, but having him neutered stopped it. I blocked his access to the sofa for two weeks prior to and after his neuter, and it was really a success.

There are no guarantees though, but a girl bunny should be spayed anyway for health-reasons, they are very prone to uterine cancer at age 3-4 if left intact. So whether a spay stops her marking or not, she’d still benefit from it helath-wise.
