Sadly, my Ollie passed away in April, after my cat knocked a bag of craisins on the floor and he ate them all.. Lesson learned.. It’s been a little while and I decided to keep one of the does from my litter and bond her with Fergus, who seems lonely. She’s the friendliest little creature, and already wants to be with him.

At what age should she be spayed? She’s a German angora which is a large breed, I expect her to top out around 10-12 pounds, and she’ll be 14 weeks old this Friday. My local spay/neuter clinic that has done all of my animals and is very good with rabbits, has a clinic next month with $60 off the price, but I’m assuming she’ll be too young? Any advice would be great. This will be my first rabbit spay, so I’m not sure what to do.

I’m sorry about Ollie. Female rabbits can be spayed when they reach sexual maturity, which can be as young as 4 months for some breeds, but many vets prefer to wait until a rabbit is 6 months old. I think that larger rabbits might not mature as quickly as smaller breeds, but I’m not sure. Your bunny may still be too young next month, especially if the spay/neuter clinic is held around the first of the month. If the vets there are good, rabbit savvy vets, you could get their opinion as to whether she is ready or not.
