What medication do/did you use, and did you find it effective? I want to consider putting Fluffy on long term pain medication for her unknown chronic issues and I find metacam doesn’t work for her, so I want to look into alternatives

Maybe talk to your vet about something like RecoverySA or a glucosamine product. If the pain is caused by joints/arthritis, this works very well (my dog is like a new dog on it).
Metacam is not OK for long term use so I don’t think that would be an option-maybe a steroid anti-inflammatory?

There have been cases where metacam is used long term with no issues. If it isn’t working for Fluffy then you’ll want to talk to your vet about alternatives. I don’t know of anything else that has been used long term in rabbits. KK made a good suggestion with the glucosamine (if the problem is arthritis). It might be safer to go with a kind that the vet recommends since there are tons of glucosamine supplements out there and some may not be appropriate for rabbits.

I think it’s a case of rabbits often being under-dosed. They can take larger doses then previously thought. I know several owners that have there rabbits on dog metacam.

What dose had she been having?

Just want to second Jersey here, rabbits metabolize metacam (meloxicam) rapidly and may need a higher dose per kg body weight than f ex cats. Here is an abstract of a study recommending 0,3 mg/kg body weight once daily. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16521861

Oh good thought guys, I didn’t even think of asking about the dosage.
