Hi everyone, I’m new around here having just adopted Olaf, my six-month-old Californian. We’re still getting to know one another and I thought clicker training might be a great way to strengthen our bond as well as keep him active and entertained. Have any of you tried it with any amount of success? He is very expressive and has a strong personality, which may or may not be helpful.

If you have tried it, how long did it take to see results with simple tasks? I plan to spend a few weeks working on “up”, “spin”, and “come” to see how he does. Also, treat suggestions for this purpose? He responds fairly well to hand-fed pellets but not so much to little bits of carrot or crunchy veg (those he prefers on his own accord for dinner).

Thank you for your help, I’m happy to be here with all of you wonderful bunfriends.

Clicker training is one of my favorite subjects
Make sure your click is always paired with a treat and you’ll be successful.

I used to use 1/2 or 1/4 raisins as the treats. That limits you to how much training you can do-but most trainers say less than ten minutes of training is all an animal can handle in one go anyways! I prefer training in five minutes as animals get frustrated if they aren’t getting it, so I start easy, work on something new, finish easy. Maybe 4-5 raisins in a day is plenty.

Thank you so much! I’ll definitely make sure to try raisins with him. I can’t wait to get started. He’s already been responding to following my fingers and a verbal click so I think he’ll be a great candidate. Much appreciated!
