        Hello bunny lovers,

this is a specific question for Australians owners: do you keep some medications in the house to give to your bunny when he/she shows signs of bloating and gas and what are they?

My bunny Emilio sometimes suffers of bloating, he never went into gi stasis because we always detected the problem on time.

Only once he had to be treated by the vet.

I asked the vet if i can keep something at home to give him straight away when i notice he’s getting sick but they refuse to give me anything. They keep saying to bring him in for a consultation when it happens. It always happens late in the evening and it would be so great to have something to help him instead of waiting 10 hours for the vet to open.

I’d love to hear what you all do.

Not in Australia, but I do keep simethicone on hand in case someone has a tummy ache (from gas). It’s effectiveness is debatable, but it seems to help my buns.

I also have simethicone on hand. The infant brand most common in Australia is Infacol. It’s a yellow box with blue writing and you can get it in the baby section of the supermarket or chemist.

I’ve found it helps within half an hour when they’ve got a bit of discomfort from gas. Of course, that may not always be the problem but simethicone is safe to give as it doesn’t absorb into the bloodstream.

I normally give 0.4mls for my rabbits that average 2kg. You may come across rabbit info recommending doses of 1-2ml but this is for a different strength gas med. Infacol is stronger (100mg/ml).
If you can’t find Infacol, look at adult liquid capsules like De-Gas.

What signs does your rabbit show when he gets like this?

I seen Infacol for baby gas in woolworths the other day, not sure where u r, I’m in Perth.

Is there something that might be giving ur bunny gas?
I found spinach was bad for my rabbit
And things like broccoli and capsicum can cause gas
If u can eliminate the problem that’d be cool wouldn’t it
