Very sadly, one of my bonded pair (max) was killed by a stray cat that got into our bunny-proof garden. Now only Reggie is left and I definitely want to get Reggie (small dwarf mix) a friend and bond them. The only problem is that he is too young to be neutered and don’t know if i should start looking for potential friends. I was also thinking that he might even be able to immediately bond with another rabbit as he is just under 3 months.

Has anyone been is in this situation before? If yes, please message me.

You’ll need to give Reggie time to grieve. I lost Merlin recently, and he was bonded to Guin. It took her a few months to recover from that loss. Because Reggie is not neutered yet, you would have to keep him separate from his new pal once he is neutered, and that separation might undo any bond that has been formed. I would wait until he is neutered and recovered, which will also give him time to mourn his pal. By then – you have hit 2 birds with one stone – and he will be ready for a new pal. Males can be neutered between 4-6 months. You are almost there.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

Please spend lots of time with your bun as you can because they grieve just as humans do. I do advise to wait until after he’s neutered and recovered before looking for a new friend and, at that time, if possible, let him chose his own mate (spayed or neutered).

If you were to bond him now with another bun, there is a chance the bond could break when he goes through puberty.
