Hi! I have a pair of bonded buns for about a year and they’ve always shared a litter box. In the past week, the dominant bun would chase the other out of the litter box and nip him. A patch of fur comes off! and the other bun can’t use the litter box and eat hay (hay tray is right above the box) unless the dominant bun is outside.

I’ve placed a 2nd litter box on the other side of the cage but the same thing happens. When the dominant bun is in the 2nd box, the other one doesn’t go to the original litter box.

Any advice on changing this behavior? I’ve beginning to see this dominance behavior for their favorite napping spots as well (no nipping but the dominant bun will nudge the other out of the way).

I agree with Bunluv. Check for health first. Sometimes, a bonded pair can have spats, or even “divorce”. Assuming the bunny is healthy (i.e. take it to the vet), is there anything new in their surrounding? New litterbox, food, water bowl, toys, carpet, furniture – anything?
