Hello!  So far our little Sora is getting used to his new home very well.  He is friendly, social, and curious.  He gets very excited to come out and explore, and loves to give kisses.  Last night he even just sat near me to stretch out and get pet.  My question is about being active in the morning and evening.   He definitely has those set “playtimes,” but what do they do during the rest of the day?  Our bun has a spot in his condo where he goes to relax, and another spot he goes to “look out”.  Even if you leave his door open he wants to be in there.  He comes out for breakfast and play, but then retreats to his spots in his cage.  But he doesn’t seem to sleep much.  He relaxes a bit and mostly closes his eyes.  I wasn’t sure if he should be doing more daytime sleeping,  we homeschool, so we are home the majority of the day and spend through lunch time schooling in the room with Sora.  Then we move to another room for lunch and lesson decompression time (so our bun might be sleeping then, but I can’t confirm this).  And back to the room with bunny in the late afternoon for a big play before dinner.  So is our schooling keeping him up? Or do bunnies veg/lounge during the day but not spend it completely sleeping.  Our bun seems to like hearing my son read (probably because the first day he came home, he sat in front of the cage reading The Tale of Benjamin Bunny and other Peter Rabbit books to him.  When my son sits down with a book, our bun comes running or pops up to his look out spot in a relaxed pose.)  I thought having our bun in the room with us most of the day would be good for him.  I am just hoping we aren’t too distracting for him.    (or maybe being young and a boy he is more avtive and this changes with age and routine?)

Adult bunnies mostly sleep through daytime. Bunnies are light sleepers, which we could owe to their hyper vigilant personalities. A simple sound wakes them up, even if it may not be loud enough for us, or other pets like dogs and cats. ‘Lounging’ would be a more appropriate term, as you said.

How old is your boy ? Young ones are undoubtedly more active. They start to mellow down once they are 8-9 months old.

If you are worried about your presence being too distracting for him, perhaps you could shift his condo to a more isolated or silent corner of your home.

Sora sounds like a beautiful name. I am aware of the Japanese name ‘Sora’, which means ‘sky’. Is it the same ?

I know Philomena sleeps most of the day because I’m away at class and is awake most of the night when I am doing homework. However sometimes when they are just lounging they are actually sleeping. Bunnies sleep with their eyes open so sometimes they can look like they are awake when they actually are asleep. I wouldn’t be surprised if your bun makes up for lost daytime sleep by sleeping during the night. They are active at dawn and dusk but that does not always mean they are strictly nocturnal. If you are worried then move him and see how it goes. However rabbits are social so spending relaxing social time with you and your family might be something he enjoys. It’s hard to say. Just do what you think is best, but to me it sounds like he is doing just fine. He may just end up adjusting to your schedule.
            Sora’s Bun Schedule:
            Morning: Noms and plays
afternoon: School times/ relax and listen to stories (my favorite thing), maybe catch nap
Evening: More noms? And more play.
            Nighttime: Sleeps

My boys do this and i moved them to a quieter spot from concern that I was disturbing their sleep patterns but they just got upset and tried to get out. Since giving them free run I’ve found that they’ll sleep as close to me as they can get even if I am making noise – during the day if I’m in they’ll sleep under the sofa or in the living room and at night they sleep outside my bedroom door. They could get to the opposite end of the house if they chose so I’m not so worried anymore

Thanks! I think he likes the noise. We had our co-op today, so we’re gone most of the day (played him early morning, but left the house at 8, was gone until 3 but went right back to playing with him.) His space was a bit messy and he’d dug up the top of his cardboard box that he likes to sit on…so I think it may have been more boring without us there. he was so excited to see us at 3 and get out to play (we did some extra long play time.) He is only 2 months so he is very excitable. But he started to lay down near us but only stays for a couple mins before taking off again. My DS has been fantastic with him, but he is a high energy kid, so I suppose it is good he has a high energy bunny! He is good in this space. If he starts seeming agitated, we can do some lessons in another room.

ETA:  Yes,  his name is Japanese.  More specifically after a character in a video game Kingdom Hearts who has the Japanese name.  My boy is big into the video games, so he is learning programming and Japanese.  He was coming up with bunny names, I suggested something playing off of usagi or ninjin and he was like “Sora!” And it stuck.  Which is funny because my younger one (who is not allowed by the bunny yet and wont be for quite some time) keeps saying Sorah- Bunnah which sounds cute.
