        Hi guys!
My bunny did something very strange that I would not think a bunny to do. I went to the bathroom abd since he has followed ne there before I shut the door. Next thing I know I hear scratching and see little paws followed by the cutest little nose. Then came the strange part. He started making a noise like something crossed between a scream and a howl. It scared me badly. Has anyone else’s bun done this? Why is he doing it? He wasn’t hurt. When I came out he got on his hind legs as he does when he wants me to pick him up. He was perfectly fine after that. However this happens every time U sgut gim out of the room I am in.

Can you get a video? I’ve definitely never heard of something like that before.

It scared me horribly. I did not have my cell with me or I would have taken a video. I will see what happens later. I don’t understand his reaction. He always does the scratching andthe paw thing, but what came out of him was really wierd. Then I open the door and he is there like nothing ever happened. Is he just wanting my attention or do I need to keep the doors open around him?

It ia very awkward having your bunny trying to get in your lap while you are on the toilet.

I believe I have discovered the reason he made that awful noise. I was clipping his nails (he always sits in my lap very content) however, when I went to grab his right paw, he feeaked out!!! I mean he tried to run he growled everything. I let gim go long enough for him to calm down a bit. I picked him up and found a splinter in his paw. I got it out not with out some battle marks, he is much better. He never once favored his paw so I didn’t think anything about it.

If he insits on scratching at the I am going to put something on the bottom of tge doors so we don’t repeat this. Any ideas what would be safe if he decides to chew?

This was my exact thought when I read your first post. A splinter.

I am not sure if I can suggest you anything to put on the bottom of the doors that a bunny WON’T chew but I think you could go for decorative laminates. It’s more cost effective in the long term.

Thank you avantika. The chewing doesn’t bother me I just don’t want to put anything that will hurt my little guy. Decorative laminates lke the sale at lowes?

These are sheets that are applied on the surface of furnitures. They have a smooth, sturdy finish to them. They are quite resistant to the shenanigans of pets And you wont have any case of splinters getting stuck on their paws.

This is how a laminated door looks like

                          Or this

Thak you so much. I think I will march my sekf down and check these out. I will do anything to ensure that my bun doesn’t hurt himself again.

ah yeah! It’s almost relieving to find out that there is a reason for your bunny to be upset!

Like for example when I first got my little Nalu, we were calmly enjoying the back deck when she freaked out and hid! She was terrified and wouldn’t let me go near her! I was so upset that I did something.. but later that evening after struggling to retrieve her from her hiding spot I was petting her and noticed her whiskers were singed!! I had a candle going and I guess she got curious and got too close! I felt so bad but was glad I was able to comfort her and there wasn’t anything else more wrong.

Glad to hear you could find what was bothering your bunny! I bet it is a relief

A huge relief Nalunut. The sound he made went straight to my heart. My bun is normally a quiet thing. However, I have been leaving the doors open so as to prevent this from happing. I have ordered some of the laminated door covers that Avantika told me about. I love my baby. Oh my Nalunut. Poor baby. I can imagine she has not gotten to close to a candle/flame since then? I am glad that she didn’t burn her cute little nose. That must have been terrifying ro realize.

She gives me exactly what I need. She helps me slow down and enjoy the little things. She helps keep me reminded and grounded <3
