So rookie loves to sit in the window on top of the marble top fire place. That spot for my touch is freezing with the colder weather rolling in. The apartment is kept at a 24C generally with the low 23 by the morning. And the marble has to be way colder than that. He also likes to sleep on the tiles in the bathroom for his 10am to 4pm nap time.

My question is how cold is cold for him? It just seems really cold on the marble and he spends hours lying there overnight when the lights go off and I sleep. I’m convinced he is scared of the dark. As soon as lights go on he lies on the floor and carpet.

I tried getting him a shirt to lie on there but he doesn’t. I also got him a bed and layer right next to it. I don’t want him to endure the cold just to keep that spot…so just wondering what experience people have in terms of telling when a bunny feels cold.

I had him since the start of the summer only so I hadn’t had cold weather with him yet.

Bunnies cope well with cold, heat is much worse. Unless the temp diff is more than 10 degrees C (sth like 17 F I think), the bunny can adjust. Draft is not good though.
Perhaps you could get him a vet bed to sleep on at night (it’s like Sherpa fleece with anti-slip under) or perhaps he could have a night light like children have?
I don’t know if they do get afraid of the dark, but perhaps some buns do and others don’t, like it is with dogs.

I did get a nightlight for the bathroom but it doesn’t seem to make a difference for him. He leaves the bathroom as soon as I turn the lights off. I guess it’s not enough light.

He likes the shadowy dark but not the full dark it seems.
He lies on the carpet and the floor when it’s daytime and he isnt napping but at nightime he goes to the window where the road lights shine in.

I have a loft apartment with 10 feet tall windows so the apartment is never in full dark and yet…

Yeah I will try and get some sort of mat for him to cover the top for the winter. And maybe put something for the bottom of the window just in case…even though I know he will just dig at it till he can push it off to the floor…he has that lovely cat gene that he loves pushing things off of things. Lol

24-23C is more than warm enough for your bun. Around 15-21C is ideal, but not always realistic. I keep my place at about 23C in the summer and between 18 & 20C in the winter.

As bam mentioned, as long as there’s not a quick and drastic change in temperature, your guy will likely be fine in what’s comfortable for you. It doesn’t hurt to offer him something soft/warm nearby. Since he’s free run (?), he’s able to leave the window sill if it becomes to cold for him.

As for the night light, I don’t know if they’re afraid of the dark, but they do sleep differently than people. He may just enjoy watching the cars pass. My girl is free run, but when we visit my parents she’s in a a small enclosure which she escapes every morning so she can sit directly in front of the window and stare outside.

He is free run. He does watch the cars and then sleeps there while I sleep. Then runs around as I get ready in the am….during the day he never goes in the window….just for a few minutes at a time as he explores.
I’m still figuring him out..I know he migrates rooms according to where I am as well….but once I say “bedtime” at night he goes to the window and daytime under the sink or under the stairs to sleep.
I hope he gets away from the window when he gets cold. Just wasnt sure if he would put up with the cold just to be in that spot….but good to hear he should get out of the window on his own when cold.
In the summer the vents he would just sit on when the AC kicked in.

He’s inside-unless you are wearing a jacket it’s warm enough And he can leave that spot but obviously likes it Should be just fine!

I believe too that if he has other warmer options but still chooses to be there, then that is where he’s happiest!
Mine too chooses to lay right up against the cold windows on cold tiles with the nice ‘warm’ carpet just a few inches away… (and I haven’t seen her shiver yet. lol).
Also if the rabbits are laid out at full stretch then they’re not cold (or they would be hunched up in a loaf, like cats or dogs (and us humans) do to retain heat).
Atleast that is what my non-veterinary-training logical mind says. :o))

Yeah he is usually all stretched out…he is stretched out 95% if he is not hopping around….even if he goes into loaf mode only for a bit before he drops to his side or stretches out
