I am brand new to this – just got a new bunny last night.  She’s 8 weeks old and I’ve got her in a big dog crate until the new hutch comes.  She was (supposedly) close to litter box trained and I put a litter box in the corner of her crate but it seems like when she is alone in there, she just sits in the litter box.  She sleeps in there and hangs out in there if she’s not playing.  Is this normal?  I did see that she peed in the other corner of the crate, but it’s hard to tell if she’s peed in the litter box.  And there is lots of poop in the other corner as well, but I sort of expect that there will be poop everywhere.

Any insight would be very appreciated!!!

It maybe that she is adjusting to her new place. It is huge for bunnies being in a new place. However, I am sure she will adjust. Just have lots of patience and love. It took my bun a couple of weeks to adjust and I got him when he was only 4 weeks. He has a litter box on his palace and he still prefers to use the floor. I have had him for 3 months. He is so happy if not a little protective. Good luck and congratulations on becoming a bun mom!

It appears bunny has chosen a corner. You could try moving the litter box to that corner ?

I’ve not had a baby rabbit, but when I first brought BB home he used to lay in his litter box when he was in a cage.

BunLuv that was exactly what I was going to say ! LOL – Yes go with what he prefers, and then he will work out what the tray is for… I also I put poops and bits of wee stained paper in the litter tray too, so she got the idea – and she did. And yes, she also liked to doze in there, and still does. :o))
