My three and a half year old lop, Marley, is whistling through his nose when he breathes. His nose is dry but he also has sneezing fits from time to time. They don’t occur too often, but the nose whistle is kind of a regular thing lately. I’m trying to decide if a vet visit should be in our near future or if I am overreacting since his nose is dry. Also, the seasons are changing where I live and he is in the process of moulting, so I’m wondering if this could be the cause, as well. I’m thinking better safe than sorry, but what do you guys think it could be?

Is it getting worse, better or staying the same? How is he otherwise-eating, drinking, playing-all the same or any changes?
Based on that-i.e. if otherwise he’s the same, you could probably give it a couple of days; however if it’s more noticeable or there are other changes I’d go sooner than later.

I don’t think the whistling is getting any worse, but it has become a regular thing. It seems he is always doing it. His behavior has not changed at all, though. He is still eating, drinking, and playing just the same. I haven’t changed his hay or bedding recently either.
I think I’m going to go ahead and make him an appointment just to be safe, a checkup couldn’t hurt. I’ll keep you updated, thanks for the reply!

My lop makes some funny, whistly and even snoring type sounds sometimes. He’s been checked by the vet. Best to have your bun checked out. Better safe than sorry and then you can stop worrying.

That’s really comforting, thank you! I did make him an appointment with the vet but they couldn’t get him in until early next month, so I’m just going to keep a close eye on his behavior and make sure nothing changes.

Sounds perfect-if it’s been going on for a while, it’s likely not urgent but you do want him to be seen-and you can get in sooner if things change.

Sometimes the smallest things are something! I made appointments for my two dogs about a month ago-just a checkup. A couple of days ago I noticed one was a little ‘off’ in the way he walked. Turns out it’s either a tendon injury or arthritis-just like that. We’re waiting to see if it heals or not which will determine if it’s arthritis or a recent injury-but really no one else can see it it’s such a small thing, but important to have looked at!

Right! Even if I am just worrying too much, I’d rather know it’s nothing than wonder if maybe it’s something. You never know, the smallest change could indicate something bigger, as you pointed out. I’m really glad you caught that and I wish him a quick recovery!

Just wanted to update you guys on Marley. He went to the vet where he had his temperature taken, his heartbeat checked, and his tummy felt. Everything seems to be okay since his behavior has not changed and he has been eating and drinking regularly. She said it could just be the weather changing like I thought, but to give them a call if anything changes. In conclusion, it turned out that it was just me being paranoid, thankfully!
