I just spent 5 days in the hospital and am now recovering from surgery. My husband and kids have been taking care of Dexter. He lives upstairs so I haven’t been able to see him for a whole week. I couldn’t stand it anymore today and slowly ventured upstairs to see my little bun. He hasn’t been groomed or pet for a week and the loose hair on him is unreal. I brushed him with his little wire brush and tried to get a bunch off with my hands (which I did) but was wondering what everyone uses to get hair off their bun. I’ve heard of a furminator but don’t know what it is. What is the best thing to get loose hair off bunnies? I dont want him swallowing all this hair! Thanks!

DexterBunny, I’m sorry that you’ve had to have surgery. I hope you’ll recover swiftly!

As for bunny hair: I have lately used a lint-roller, a member here recommended it. But if there’s lots of hair, brush first. I use a zoom brush, self-cleaning. I have a furminator, but I prefer the zoom brush for the rabbits.

Lint-rolling is very good though, for when you’ve brushed off the worst. (If you start by lint-rolling I suspect you’d have to use a crazy amount of sticky paper). You should use a generic lint-brush, not a name-brand because the name-brands are higher quality = tougher glue that may stick a bit too well to the bunny’s fur.

The best thing about lint-rolling is that the bunnies don’t hate it and you don’t get any hair flying around in your home, which can be a nuisance. Or maybe the best thing is you get a great-looking bunny that can’t ingest fur and get necklace-poop.

The best brush depends on your bunny’s fur type. A furminator works great on short, shiny type coats or Mini-Rex plushy fur. For longer haired or thick furred bunnies, a small slicker works well. Also the wet hands method cant’ be beat during a molt. I do it after each brushing.

Dexter is a Californian, so he has your basic short average thickness coat.
