I noticed a little blood on the floor so I picked up fluffy and her foot was bleeding. Its not near the nail or anything so I don’t think its a torn nail. I’m not sure if she got a cut or something. Is there anything I can do to stop the bleeding in the meantime? Of course if it doesn’t stop bleeding I’ll take her to the vet

I put a bit of equate triple antibiotic ointment on there. Is that ok to use?

Did you find the cut? Yes, you can put plain triple antibiotic ointment (generic Neosporin) on it. Just make sure it isn’t the kind with pain reliever.

Ditto-polysporin is ok and try to find where she’s bleeding-is it her heel? Is it a lot?

I think its sore hocks. I pulled back the fur on her hock and there it was- a red callous. Since she isn’t bleeding anymore do I need to continue the polysporin?
And I’ve already put some soft blankets down on her cage

If it’s healing okay, then you probably don’t need the ointment. It might, however, help keep it moist though so it probably wouldn’t hurt. Plus you have the anti-infection benefit.

I’m glad it’s healed over! Here is an article by Dana Krempels on how to make a foot-bandage with bunny fur for a bunny with sore hocks. Should NOT be used on open wounds though (she stresses that in the article).

But maybe soft stuff like fleece in the cage/on the floors will do the trick. Many healing vibes!

Definitely keep a close eye on it. Bunny hocks can abscess and be very difficult to heal. If it opens again, I would probably bring her to the vet to get some oral antibiotics as a pre-caution. That’s what I did for Olivia when her hocks were cracked. She also gave me some antibiotic scrub to wash the area.

Will do, I also already have oral baytril antibiotic at home. I could just give her that for the next time this happens, but I probably shouldn’t without vet instruction?

Never give meds without talking to a vet first.
