I have decided to switch my almost 4 year old bun Nikita from Purina rabbit chow to Oxbow (because the purina has corn and is alfalfa based) and I only have about 1/4 cup of the purina rabbit chow left, is there any way that since my bun only gets 1/4 cup per day I could do a quicker food switch? Maybe try to stretch it a little bit by giving her extra extra hay? The reason I don’t want to get more purina is because it would be a waste of food and money, the place I get it only sells it in 50lb bags. If anybody here has had to do food switches, what did you add to help the process go smoothly? I really would not like top but another giant bag of the purina

If your bunny’s tummy is healthy, I’d try and do the transition with the little bit of pellets you have left. Chances are though that your bunny won’t think the Oxbow is as yummy, and she may be reluctant to eat it. She will eat it when she becomes hungry though, and as long as she has good hay too, she shouldn’t starve.

Thanks so much for the reply! And ok, I think I will try it, just to be safe though I am going to give her some pumpkin and a digestive health tab that oxbow makes. I also have gotten a bag of oxbow hay, which she absolutely ADORES (she normally gets baled hay that I get down the street from my house that is much cheaper than Oxbow) just in case any problem arises. Should I give her canned pumpkin puree or cut up a raw pumpkin and give it to her or does it matter?
it may be overkill, but I know digestive problems are a major problem for buns!

I very much doubt there will be a problem, but canned pumpkin (not pie-filling, just plain unsweetened pumpkin) is always good to have on hand in case sth happens. Should she stubbornly refuse the new pellets they can as a last resort be mashed up with a little mashed pumpkin. (I’ve never gotten my bunnies to touch raw pumpkin, only cooked.)
That she adores hay is so great, I doubt the switch will cause a problem since a hay-loving bun as a rule has the exact right bacteria in her gut.
But I’m sure she’ll love an Oxbow digestive tab
