As it gets colder outside I’ve noticed my rabbit is looking for things to cuddle. She gets inside slippers and snuggles anyone that will snuggle her. I was wondering if stuffed animals were a good thing for a rabbit to cuddle. I thought about buying her one, but I didn’t know if she chewed on it and got to the filling if that would hurt her. Any thoughts?

Many rabbits absolutely do appreciate a stuffie rabbit. Sometimes they become very friendly with a stuffie and will groom it and cuddle with it like it is a real rabbit. But you have to keep an eye of course in case she chews it. It’s not possible to tell if she will until you’ve tried. Don’t get a pricey one, in case she does chew it so you have to take it away.

If it gets really cold she might like a hot-water-bottle wrapped in a fleece blankie. Not too hot obviously and there must be enough space for her to move away from it if she needs to. Again she might chew it, so again, keep an eye =)

Thanks so much. I had seen pictures online of rabbits with stuffed animals, but I wasn’t very trusting on whether or not it was a good idea!

Dog or baby plushies are best…they have embroidered eyes and noses which makes them more bunny safe. But as mentioned, keep a close eye at first….my Bindi attacked a stuffed animal and ingested some stuffing and became very ill. But my Olivia has 2 stuffies that she loves. It just depends on the bunny.

I brought a cheap one for Sally from the op-shop, but she mostly ignores it.
LittlePuffyTail, I hope Bindi was ok.

I bought a bunny in the dog section, for when BB was alone. He chewed the tip of one ear off, then ignored it. Josephine grooms it and I woke one night to see BB grooming it also..not that he’d do so in broad daylight !

How cold is cold for bunnies? Rookie loves sitting in the window on top of the marble fire place top…when I touch it is COLD…but he lies down and hangs out…I’m worried he will catch a cold…I put a shirt there for him to lie on but he doesnt do it.
Should I try and get him a bed maybe? Will he move when he feels it’s too cold? Never had a winter with him yet…

Just recommended this on another post, but its very relevant here. There are stuffies called ‘hotties’ which have microwaveable middles. The boys had one for after surgery. They’re made as a replacement for hot water bottles for small children so embroidered eyes etc and don’t get too hot so they couldn’t scold themselves…

Other than that I think you just have to trust that buns will get up and move if they’re uncomfortable. If you do get a bed, don’t get too attached/spend too much money as they boys have had 2 – one they have just ignored and the other which they insisted on using as a litter tray (the only thing they’ve ever peed on repeatedly!)

Mine love stuffed animals. Kahlua has a butterfly that is very well loved.
