Ok so I glanced at Hercules my bunny and he was twitching a lot. His eyes were opening and closing randomly and sometimes closed for a long time and then started blinking a lot. His ears were moving in a bunch of different directions rapidly and he normally doesn’t do that. It was very odd because his nose was wiggling at varying speeds and sometimes he randomly made his nose somehow wiggle like extremely fast and high. His body and legs were also twitching quite a bit. Then I think he woke up because he opened his eyes for a long time and stopped moving his ears and then he stood up and flopped and now he is just sleeping with his eyes open in a flop. Was he dreaming when he was twitching?

Yes, I would say he was dreaming. I’ve never seen my bunnies do that, but I’ve read about others having seen their rabbits do it. My dog does it a lot, she runs and yelps in her sleep. It’s extremely common in dogs, not as common in rabbits. The eyes move during that phase of the sleep, in humans too, but you never see that in a human because the eyes are closed when humans sleep. It’s called Rapid Eye Movement sleep. That’s when most of the dreaming occurs.

Moshu does the same as H&M mentioned. Lots of twitching, bending involuntarily, constriction of pupil, freezing, nose wiggling. There is one really cute video on Youtube of bunny dreaming.

They will do that when they are in a deep sleep. And yes, they will do it with their eyes open! LOL I mentioned it in the chat last month that Wooly was sleeping with his eyes open and doing his little dreaming twitches. So creepy! Hahaha!

Bindi will sometimes do little chewing motions when he’s sleeping. Probably dreaming about bananas.
