I have a Netherland Dwarf rabbit. I trim her nails regularly and I don’t think they were too long when this must’ve happened. I just noticed it today. It seems Poppy’s thumb nail on the left front paw is bent backwards, a little more than 90 degrees. . It looks like it’s the entire nail and not just a portion of it.

She doesn’t seem to be favoring any side while running around and she doesn’t really seem to be in pain. I’m not sure what to do. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful.

Are you able to get a closer look at it. Sometimes the outer portion will break off leaving a nub if they catch their nail on something. You need to see if this is the case and, if it is, the broken portion should just come right off. If this isn’t the case, then the vet might need to remove it (as it will bleed and cause pain if it’s ripped the rest of the way out or could potentially become infected).

My Bam had a nail like that when I got him. It stayed that way for a long time, and now, years later, it has righted itself, which iwas very unexpected.

They can break their claws so they grow out funny. If you palpate (gently press and feel) the foot with the funny claw, does she react with pain? Can you see any redness or swelling around the claw?
