I don’t have my rabbits yet, but will be getting them in just over a week, aged 8 weeks. They are brother and sister. The breeder said she separates her rabbits into sexes when they are around 10 weeks old. I would like to get the buck neutered at around 4 months of age or when his testicles are descended. My vet suggested neutering at 6 months. The breeder didn’t suggest getting the doe spayed at all. She says they will be a bonded pair and it’s fine to just get the buck neutered.

But my real question is: If I separate them from weeks 10-20 will they need to be lengthily re-bonded? Or will it totally depend on their own personalities?

Generally it’s easier to rebond siblings that have grown up together than two bunnies that are strangers. If you separate them before any serious aggression has arisen between them, chances are good rebonding won’t be too much of an ordeal.
I don’t agree about not spaying the doe. Does have a very high risk of uterine cancer at age 2-3 if unspayed. The relationship between the two buns will also be much better if neither of them have a sexual interest in the other. An unspayed doe may pester the male for sex and that may be very stressful for both buns.

Thanks Bam. Yes, from all my reading I have gathered that also spaying the doe is necessary. House rabbit knowledge seems to not be as advanced here in New Zealand as it is overseas. Most rabbits in NZ live outside in hutches full time. Thanks for the rebonding info.
