Hi all, I posted recently about Fifi going off her food and water since coming back from her holiday home a few days ago. I’ve taken her to the vets tonight as she’s still not 100% and they’ve given her a painkiller injection, an injection to help her digestion move along and prescribed critical care. He said he couldn’t feel anything wrong with her tum and wasn’t sure what was happening as yet but wants me to force feed her critical care.
I’ve never fed by syringe before and she’s not the most obedient of bunnies, AND i live alone, so I’m just trying alternatives to feed her this before I have to syringe. First I mashed a little up with a small bit of banana and she’s eaten a quarter of that then got fed up of it. Then I saw my brand new juicer and had a bit of a brainwave and juiced a small amount of kale, mint, broccoli stem and a tiny amount of pineapple with the critical care liquid/paste. She waffled her nose at it interestedly and tried it twice before tiring of it again.
I just wondered if I had actually had a good idea with making a juice for bunny, or if it’s a bad idea?
She’s hopping around the room and is quite alert, hence me not wanting to resort to a battle to force feed her just yet x

I think the juicing idea was splendid. Sometimes they will eat their critical care voluntarily if you just mix it with sth that’s yummy enough. Canned pumpkin (not pie-filling, just plain unsweetened pumpkin) is often popular with bunnies. Banana is of course also a favorite with many.

Sometimes, for some reason known only to bunnies, they will eat their CC mix from a spoon, but not from a plate or bowl. I remember one member whose rabbit would only eat CC from a silver spoon =)

That she’s hopping around is so great. Moving about helps the intestines get moving too.

Though I wouldn’t recommend juicing as part of a normal bunny diet, b/c juicing removes the fiber and they need fiber, as a way to make critical care more tasty it sounds like a good idea. The critical care is providing the fiber that the juice is missing.

You might try other flavors, since she isn’t going for the first one. Maybe one flavor at a time. Cilantro or carrot would be my go to flavors.
