My bunny drinks A LOT. I fill up his 6.5×3 inch waterbottle around 2-3 times a day! Which also makes him pee more often. I’m not too worried about it but is anyone else going through this situation?

Sounds like a lot to me. Does your bun get plenty of greens? If so, he shouldn’t need as much water. How old is he? How big? I’m not sure what he should be drinking, but this should give a little more info for others looking at this. There are medical and emotional (believe it or not) reasons for rabbits to drink too much. Oh, and do you know, in ounces, how much the water bottle holds?

It does sound like a lot. I agree to make sure he gets plenty of greens. The breed of your rabbit may cause him to be drinking more (bigger breeds usually drink more than little ones!) and if its warmer he may be needing to drink more as well.

Check to make sure that the bottle itself isn’t leaking a lot. I did at one point have a bottle that leaked like crazy and I had to refill it multiple times a day. At first I believed it was my bun drinking but soon realized when I walked by one day and drops were coming out like 2-3 a second.

Thank you so much! He is a California Rex, 6.2lbs. I will be adding more leafy greens into his diet and see if that helps

Yes! A leaky water bottle is an EXCELLENT thought. I forgot about that. Definitely check and see if it’s super wet under the bottle. That sounds like a crazy amount for a 6 pounder. One person on here has a rabbit with OCD and it had to be put on medication to stop all the drinking. I don’t think, long term, that it would be good for him to drink excessive amounts, if it is too much. I’d keep on top of this. I just don’t know how much is too much. There are so many variables that can factor into it

You might want to consider a water bowl instead. Water bottles often don’t let out much water at a time and a lot is lost. If you are still concerned, I would call your vet to see it there is an underlying cause.
