BunBun likes to dig, so I cut the side out of a box and put some old store bought hay in it so she could dig.  I also used it to scatter pellets in so she could forage. It was working great for a few weeks but now she’s pooping in it, even though her litter box is right next to it with some of her fresh hay.  When I use shredded paper she eats it. She never used to poop anywhere that didnt have carefresh type litter. Any ideas?

My bun has a litter tray in her hutch and I put hay down in there for bedding, and sometimes if she jumps in and out of the litter box a bit enthusiastically, she sort of flicks them out into the rest of the hutch!

Sometimes when I clean out the hay and give her a new batch, there seem to be quite a few poops in there so perhaps it’s not all flicking but that’s all I’ve actually seen that could be the reason!
