This weekend is the second time we went away and had Grandma come stay with our bun and she swears she misses us. She doesnt want to play in any other room except the dining room, which is where she and I spend most mornings, and she just sits there looking sad.  No binky’s, playing in her maze, tearing around, nothing. When we were away for a week in July Grandma even said bun didnt have the ferocious appetite she usually has. Is this Grandmas imagination or have you all experienced the same thing?

My Yohio has been reported to have an unhappy air about him and a subdued appetite when I’ve been away for a few nights.
I think they can feel the lack of a person. I don’t know if they can miss a person like humans miss someone.

If my bun is left home alone she wont miss us. She actually gets mad at us for leaving her, she doesnt let us pet her or pick her up when we come home.

Philomena also is one to get upset with me when I leave her. She usually is excited to see me for the first five minutes of when I get home, but then she starts ignoring me for about a week. However she doesn’t seem to miss me when I’m gone.

I don’t think your grandma is crazy though, bunnies can pick up on things and react to them. As Bam said they can pick up on the fact that you’re not there and they may react to the fact that you’re gone.

Philomena reacts to my emotions by mimicking them. If I’m depressed, she’s depressed, if I’m annoyed, she’s annoyed, if I’m playful, she’s playful. So it wouldn’t surprise me that your bun would behave differently in your absence. Whether or not we could call it “missing you” is debatable though

Thanks for the feedback , I enjoy reading stories about your bun’s. Im thinking she doesnt like the change in routine because we have our special things we do every day. Now that she is spayed we’ve been debating bringing her upstairs to our room at night to sleep but I dont know if thats a good habit to start because when we go away, its just one more thing she’ll have to adjust to .

You can get her upstairs to sleep with you on some days , but not everyday so she doesnt make it a routine. Let it just be a few days in a week and every week change the days you do it.

We were gone for 5 days just here recently. We got back and the buns couldn’t have cared less. I swear, all I’m good for is food and naners. =\

We’ve really only left them alone once, since usually either myself or my boyfriend are here, but according to my friend who took care of them while we were away they acted completely normally while we were gone. However, when I got back Tossu was a lot more cuddly than usual, and he followed me around incessantly for a few hours. He just would not leave me alone! Sukka, on the other hand, didn’t even notice we were gone. As long as she has food and head rubs, I don’t think she cares who gives them. All humans are friends.

I guess it might make a difference if you only have one bun and you’re all the bun has for companionship.

Since Buster is a single bunny, he misses me a lot when I am gone. Recently, I had a friend watch him for 2 nights. He was so lonely that he stopped drinking his water and the friend took him to the vet. That expensive lesson has solidified my desire to get Buster a friend. I was considering a second bunny before then, but now I am certain that he really wants somebunny with him 24/7.
