Hi all, first time post but felt I had to get it off my chest as it’s so painful.

Our bun, Bela, was only 5 months old but was very happy. We just spent a fortune on a huge hutch and run for her. We spent 3 weekends making it?. She had a garden with herbs and safe plants to eat and often binkied.

We were in the middle of an application for a friend for her from the rescue centre. All was well.

We asked a friend to look after her at our house when we went away for a weekend. The day after we came home, she wasn’t quite herself but by the morning she was dead.

Turns out, while we were away, our friend for whatever reason took her out of her large run and put her in the house (where she isn’t allowed) and the rabbit chewed a live wire in half. She poor bun must have had a shock as she bit out friend and that’s not like her at all.

As I said, we got back and by the next morning she was dead.

I also found out that my friend had been drinking!!! He also stained our furniture and made a hell of a mess, but that’s a side issue.

We only had her 7 weeks but it felt like years. We thought we could trust this person, but he’s let us down in the worst possible way.

We’re distraught and wish we hadn’t have gone away. I feel awful thinking about her in pain all alone.

We burried her on the mountain with her favourite flowers and foods on a bed of hay. We just can’t stop crying. I just wished he just listened to me when I told him not to take her out of the run as she was safe in there.

        Sorry for going on.

Miss you, Bela. You made us so happy and I hope we gave you some happiness in your short life x

I am so very very sorry for your loss. Losing a rabbit is so painful. I lost my bunny when she was only about two. She gave birth to three still born babies and a month later died… I bet your bunny is so grateful for you guys and she is probably in heaven with all the other bunnies (including mine and her babies) just hoping around and having a good time waiting to see you again. Again I am so sorry for your lose

I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m sorry your friend turned out to be so irresponsible.

            It’s so sad.

            Binky free little Bela.

I’m so very sorry for your loss. This is so sad. It really doesn’t take long for them to become very attached to a bunny and saying goodbye is so very hard.

I would have felt a murderous rage for a ‘friend’ who would have been so careless with my little one. It angers me that people take animal companions so lightly. I dont know how your terms are with you friend now, but I personally would never be able to continue friendship with a person who caused such a deep loss to me.

Its very evident that you are a great bunny parent. All those things you made for her so that she could live happily. And this grief you are feeling. And how beautifully you buried her.

Take some time. But adopt once again when you are ready. You can give a great life to another bunny.
