Hello, i have a fixed lion head mix who has quite the attitude. Sometimes he’s a sweet little love bug, and the next day he’s head butting, growling and scratching me. He has 100% out of cage time with free range in my large kitchen. Im not sure why he’s unhappy. I have another rabbit but they hate each other so i have to keep them separate. Could he be lonely? Or bored?

Does he have enough toys? You should try to bond the rabbits together because you may have bonded them wrong or not bonded them because bonding is quite tedious and separating them when they fight and not letting them touch after will just let them leave on bad terms which is not good.

Is this a sudden behavior change? If so, that might be concerning since aggression can sometimes be the result of pain or discomfort.

How is his tummy? I’m going with the health/pain-theory of LBJ’s here, assuming this is a sudden behavior change: The workings of a bunny tummy is more or less a guide to bunny-well-being. Is his appetite the same as always? Is the output (droppings, pee, cecals) the same as always? Any poopy-butt?

Will he let you palpate his body and if you do, does he seem to have any tender spots?

How old is he and how long have you had him for? My bunny Yohio had moments of distrust when he was new with me. He’d growl, scratch, box, even bite and the next second he’d demand pets. Why a rabbit does this is somewhat enigmatic but it doesn’t seem too uncommon.

It’s not always possible for a lay-person to bond two rabbits who try to hurt each other very bad during bonding-sessions.
