Hello everyone. This is my first post.

I have 2 boys, Gary and Murphy, 4-5 months old. They are not from the same litter but we’re in the same group at the pet shop.
They were both neutered yesterday. All went well.
They live in a large semi outdoor hutch (conservatory in winter UK) with a separate garden run. They’re fed predominantly pellets with the odd treat of veggies.
One of my boys (he was hand reared as mother died after they were born) has been spraying the cage walls with urine for the past few weeks, the other bunny gets covered in it too. I’ve been washing him sometimes, I’m worried it’s bad for his skin…. Can I do anything about the urine spraying? Should I leave it or wash it off? It’s a lot!
Some times I hear them chasing each other, once or twice I’ve noticed a bite wound on the one who gets covered in urine. Then they will be happily snuggled up sleeping. I can’t work out if this is normal, if they don’t get on, if they do like each other. Should I separate them? Is it their age? Help! I don’t want them being unhappy

The spraying is most likely hormonal and may get worse these next few weeks after the neuter. The fighting may get worse too during this time. It’s called a post-neuter craze and basically means their hormones are on a roller-coaster now for like a month or so until they finally settle. So keep a close eye on them, it’s likely you’ll need to separate them so they don’t hurt each other.

Oh, and btw, you should give them hay. You can give them a mix of grassy hay and alfalfa hay until they’re about 6 months, then just grassy hay. Hay is extremely important for buns.

Thank you for the reply ?

Oh yes they have hay everyday, it’s a staple like water, didn’t think to point that out!

I’ve been watching them quite closely today whilst I hosed their cage down, it’s quite an even match, more so than I thought. Fingers crossed after a few weeks things will settle down ??
