        Hello everyone,

This is my first post and I am pleased to be a member here.

I bought a rabbit (he is called Patch) and I was a bit naughty and bought him when my parents were away on holiday. Just incase you think I am a rebel teenager, think again! I am actually 23 years old. I used to have a rabbit called Sparky and he was 10 years old before he passed away. Anyways, back on track, I felt i needed a little friend that I can watch grow and nurture with love and care (I hope I don’t sound silly!).

Now the parents are back, they have been back a few weeks and Patch has won over my mam, just not my dad (sadly). The parents want him outside and I have said I would rather him stay in the house and be safe but unfortunately that can’t happen. So I asked if he is to stay outside can I bring him in if the temperature drops into the minus’, to which my mother agreed. I also said  that if he goes outside then his new swanky hutch needs to be bigger than his cage as well otherwise Patch will be downsizing and actually no better off outside.

So to cut a long story short, if I am to put Patch outside and bring him in, in the cold days, will he be okay or will the change back be bad for him?

        Thank you

        x

It is obviously better if he could stay inside all the time. However, since that is not possible you should also see if your parents will also agree to let him in wihen the weather goes above 70 (assuming you home is air conditioned). Heat can be just as dangerous as the cold for bunnies. The second concern is predators. Even if a predator can’t get to the bunny they can still be harmful. Rabbits have been known to die of fright from a predator just trying to get into their hutches. A third concern is mites, flies, parasites and other pests. Outdoor bunnies are prone to a variety of things that indoor ones just don’t have to face. Maybe when given all the challenges of raising an outdoor rabbit you parents will agree to let him stay in the house.

Good luck and congrats on your new bunny!
