        Hi all

I’m looking for a new way to give my bunnies a variety in snacks, but not things that are covered in sugar like some treats from the pet stores. I was thinking about dehydrating fruits and vegetables myself for our rabbits to give as treats and was wondering if anyone else has done this or has done any research on it.

Is there a big difference between buying fresh and dehydrating versus frozen?

Also I’ve heard of people dehydrating certain flowers as snacks and wanted to know which are safe for the bunnies

Also if anyone has any recipes for some sort of bunny biscuits it would be helpful as well

I believe dehydrated fruit and veg is fine for a bun as long as you do it yourself and know whats going into it. I have seen and heard of people doing that for their buns without problems. I usually just give my buns fresh fruit. For frozen fruits, your buns may not like them as much, and they may have added ingredients to keep them “fresh” as well as often I see added sugar. Would you rather have a smoothie made out of fresh fruits that you know whats in them, or with frozen fruits with added ingredients

Searching around, I did find a recipe that someone posted on another forum a while back

Falls when I get lots of apples on my trees I dehydrate apple-slices on my fruit-and-mushroom-dryer. I also dehydrate leaves I pick outside during spring, it’s a great supplement for use in winter. You want a dryer that doesn’t get too hot and has a good fan. I don’t use dried food as the main source of nourishment for my buns, so it’s never been super-important for me to find out how much of the nutrients that’s lost in the drying-process.

My bunnies appreciate some herbs better when they are dried. Mint f ex and oregano. They won’t touch oregano unless it’s dried.
