My bunny likes to bully my best friend. We noticed when I went on vacation and my friend (who also has a rabbit) came over to take care of her. Philomena will circle my friends feet and will not let her walk until Philomena says so, otherwise she tries to nip. Philomena doesn’t do this to anyone else but her and doesn’t do it as much when I’m around, like she knows she’ll get in trouble if she gets caught bullying my friend. This isn’t something that has suddenly happened either. Philomena and my friend would sit together, share treats, and Philomena has chinned my friends knee (something she only does to me and my friend). Philomena just doesn’t like it when my friend gets up to either come in or leave. I don’t understand it. Any thoughts?

        PS Philomena is spayed

My guess is she smells the other bunny on your friend. Not sure why this would have started all of a sudden, though. How old is your bunny?

Circling and nipping can be signs of your rabbit reaching that “mature” age. Both my rabbits did this to me, never did it to my father, and never it when anyone else was in the room. As soon as they were fixed (well, after the hormones calmed down) the behavior stopped. Its possible that they are smelling the bunny on your friend and want that bunny for themselves!

Ive also heard it described as a showing of happiness or wanting attention, but, again, when mine were fixed, it stopped, so I cannot be positive on that. I have not heard it described as bullying though. (if you watch rabbits mate, you will likely see a lot of nips!) If your rabbit didn’t like your friend, she could bite a lot harder than just a nip!

I also have a hunch that she can smell the other bunny. Its not so sudden though Philomena used to get upset whenever my friend would go to leave. It’s only now that she does it when my friend is coming in or leaving. Philomena is 1 year and about 5 months old and she was spayed almost a year ago. I would think it would be that Philomena wants attention from her but Philomena isn’t the kind of bunny who likes being pet or attention. Whenever someone pets her she runs away and then cleans her self to show us that she can do it on her own. Thats not to say that Philomena isn’t affectionate she’s just very independent.

But I think guys are right and that she can just smell the other rabbit. Philomena has never really cared for other bunnies and gets very upset when she smells them on my jacket or hands. She’s also very territorial.

She sounds like quite a little diva.
