I am trying all of these tricks for my daughters Flemish giant. She is about 2 and has been spayed. There are days I think she is finally getting it and then days that she doesn’t have a clue. We keep her in the bathroom in a small pen with two litter boxes. She mostly will always pee in the box but never poop. I know she is smart enough but part of me thinks she might be a bit stubborn. I feel bad with her in the pen so long and would like her to have free range of the house but don’t want my house stinky. Once she starts going in the boxes, how much freedom do I give her? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Once she starts going in the boxes, gradually increase the size of the space she can roam in as long as she still uses the boxes. Also as the area becomes larger provide more litter boxes and elimate ones slowly until you have like 3 or 4 remaining. I don’t know how to litter train reluctant rabbits because mine learned it very quickly so I’m sorry I got no advice for that.

I litter-trained my bam when he was at least over a year old (according to vets, he was a stray), and it did take longer for him that it did for my other bun who was litter-trained young. I did the same things you always read about, ut some pee and poop in the box, don’t clean out the box too thoroughly or the bun may not know it’s a toilet, pick/sweep up stray poop and put it in the box. Bam will pee in his boxes, but he will leave some poop around. I just pick it up and put it in his boxes. He will most likely never be perfect (had him for 4 years soon), but I’ve accepted that.

As Hercules&M says, gradually increase her space and provide several litter-boxes. You can put some hay within reach from the box or even in the box, many bunnies like to much as they do their business.

I had the same issue. In the end I gave up, gave him his own room with plastic lined floors, and cleaned every day. It did’t smell either.

He also never went in the same spot. Chom pees everywhere. We will be retrying soon.
