I have had my bunny Ginger for three months and Iknow she is comfortable around me and stuff, but she doesn’t play. She might chew on some cardboard, but that is the extent of her playing. I have bought and made her tons of toys but she doesn’t touch them. The only thing she really likes to do is lick me. Is this bad? I have heard that getting another rabbit will make them play and I have room for two or three more, but I just dont know what to do.

Bunnies play in different ways.  My rabbit loves anything that he can hop or climb on and is a big fan of tunnels, but he’s totally snubbed most toys that are made for tossing or chewing. My rabbit does love anything that involves food, so he’s a big fan of his treat ball, which you also might want to look into getting. Is she otherwise active?

I do use treat balls and other things that involve hiding snacks. She seems to like those, but gets bored of them after a little bit. She does like to go in boxes and things so I have lots of those, but she gets bored with them after a few minutes. Other than that she just licks me. And her stuffed bunny. Do you think I should consider getting another bunny for her?

I currently only have one rabbit, but while I think it is something to consider, I wouldn’t get another one solely because of this. Bonding rabbits takes time and isn’t guaranteed, so even if you do get another rabbit, they won’t be able to play together right away. If she otherwise seems active and healthy (is eating and pooping, etc), I wouldn’t worry too much about whether or not she’s playing. But if you’re interested in getting a second rabbit for additional reasons and are up for the task, then I’m sure some of the members here who have more than one rabbit will be happy to answer your questions.

Also, how old is she? My rabbit is six months old, and judging from my experiences with him, young rabbits have pretty short attention spans.

My rabbit is five months old. I think I will consider getting another just because I think might might help and I had kind of planned on it. Thanks for the advice. Any other helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Olly is 2 years old and only plays with cardboard boxes, he does nudge ne to play sometimes when his tunnel is on the floor, I have lost weight but I don’t think I can fit in the tunnel, no matter how much he pushes me or pushes the tunnel towards me.

That’s cute! I hope that Ginger will be more open to toys as she gets older, but I guess I can only hope for the best.

If you are going to consider getting another bunny, you need to take into consideration the bonding process, sometimes it takes weeks or even months to bond. You’ll need to make sure both buns are spayed/neutered first.

Do you have any tunnels that you’d recommend?  I’d love to try to get one for Gizmo, but as a new bunny owner I’m not sure what to get!  My bun too isn’t too interested in toys, so maybe something like this will help him be more playful.

Hugo’s and my favorite tunnel is the Tunnel Haven, which you can buy from the Binky Bunny store. I also have the Ware Fun Tunnel for Small Animals, but I wouldn’t recommend that one if your rabbit is a chewer, since it’s plastic. It’s pretty small, so while it’s the right size for my Holland Lop, it wouldn’t be good for a bigger bunny. I think you can find inexpensive tunnels made for cats.

My bunny changes her mind regularly about what she likes to play with. Most of her toys she ignores but after a year, she suddenly started playing with some of them! She loves throwing Willow sticks if we wave them in her face. That’s pretty much the only toy she’s liked throwing around. Otherwise, as others have said, she’s also big into tunnels! Also, try moving things around sometimes. When our bunny gets bored, we move some of her tunnels and hideaway boxes… She then gets curious again and starts exploring!

If you want an inexpensive tunnel, go to a store like Home Depot and get a Quik Tube.  They are used to build cement posts.  They come in different widths and lengths.  I got one that’s about 8 inches around and 5 feet long, for about $7.00.  It’s made of a very heavy duty cardboard, and I saw it recommended on another bunny website.  My bun likes it.

Like HereComesTheBun said, bunnies play in different ways, not every bunny has the same interests. My bunnies have moments where they are very lazy and they don’t want to play; they just want their head rubs. Other times, they love to play and climb all over the furniture. My bunnies love cardboard boxes, and can play in them for hours! I also bought a little tent for them from the dollar store that was only 3$, they love it and I also have a small tunnel they love to play in, that again was only 3$ from the dollar store! It keeps them entertained for hours!!

My flemish isn’t a big fan of playing, in general. He ignores any and all toys I’ve ever bought for him, but he’ll occasionally have big fun with a large plastic cup I gave him to toss around. He also loves boxes and he likes to dig. So his favorite toy is a cardboard box with a towel in the bottom of it, lol. I think, as others have said, that it all depends on the personality of the particular bunny. While Toby is perfectly content loafing around on the floor or the couch, KitKat is into EVERYTHING. She’s pulling books off shelves, tossing her rattle, overturning her toy basket, losing toilet paper rolls under the chair, exploring the tunnel, and throwing fluff out of her dig box.
